Terms of use
Last updated September 3, 2026. This covers superiorwaves.ca, run by SuperiorWaves. Using the site means you accept these.
The forecast is a model, not a promise
Everything scored on this site is computed from public weather data and a wave model. It is planning information. It is not a marine forecast service, it is not issued by any weather authority, and it cannot see the squall that is about to form over the lake.
The model can be wrong, the weather data behind it can be wrong or stale, and the whole site can be down at the moment you most want it. A verdict of GO is not permission and it is not a guarantee of anything. Before you go out, check the official marine forecast from Environment Canada or the National Weather Service, and make your own decision on the day, in front of the water, with your own eyes.
You are responsible for your own safety and for anybody you take with you. That responsibility cannot be handed to a website. Read the safety page: cold water on this lake kills people in July, and it is the thing the numbers on the front page will not make you feel.
Your account
Your mobile number is your identity here, so keep control of it. Anybody holding your phone can request a code and sign in as you. If you change or give up that number, change it here or delete the account, or whoever gets the number next inherits your access.
Accounts are for people aged 16 and over. One account per person. Do not sign up with a number that is not yours.
What you post
What you write stays yours. By posting it you give this site permission to show it, which is the only thing a community feed can do with a post. Delete it and that permission ends, apart from the ordinary lag of backups aging out.
Post your own material, and post honestly. A condition report is worth something only because people trust it, so inventing one is worse here than ordinary spam: somebody may launch a boat on the strength of what you wrote.
Not allowed
Making up conditions, or reporting water you have not seen.
Anything abusive, hateful, harassing or threatening.
Other people's photos, writing or private details, including somebody's phone number or exact home.
Advertising, spam, or repeatedly posting the same thing.
Encouraging anybody to go out in conditions the site has called dangerous.
Impersonating another rider, a marina, or any coast guard or weather service.
Posts and accounts that break these can be removed or banned without notice. There is no obligation to review anything before it appears, and no obligation to keep anything up.
Texting a forecast to somebody else
The share feature sends a real text message to a real phone, and it is the only thing on this site that can reach somebody who never signed up. Use it for people who would want to hear from you: a mate you ride with, somebody expecting you.
Only send to a number whose owner would be happy to get it, and never use it to reach somebody repeatedly or anonymously. In much of Canada and the United States sending unsolicited commercial or bulk messages is against the law, and the message says who sent it for exactly that reason. Sending limits apply per sender, per recipient and per pair, and abusing this feature will lose you the account.
Availability and liability
The site is provided as it is, with no warranty of any kind. It depends on weather services, a messaging provider and map servers that are not ours, so it can be slow, wrong or offline without warning. Alerts are best effort: a text can be delayed or never arrive, and you should not build a plan around one turning up.
To the fullest extent the law allows, SuperiorWaves is not liable for any loss, injury, damage or cost arising out of using this site or relying on anything it says, including decisions about whether to go out on the water. Nothing here limits liability for anything that cannot lawfully be limited.
Do not scrape the site, hammer the JSON endpoints, or try to get at other people's accounts or the systems behind it. The read-only JSON surface is there to make the wave model checkable, so use it at a sane rate and cache what you take.
Housekeeping
Privacy. What is collected and who it reaches is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

Ending it. You can delete your account at any time from your profile. Accounts that break these terms can be closed.
